Class Descriptions

BASICS – A beginners class that will move slowly and with modifications, so new students can learn the fundamentals of a yoga practice. This class is a great place to "start" and also good for those who simply want a slower paced class. Do not hesitate to speak with the instructor if you have questions! Remember to simply breathe & enjoy!

All Level Vinyasa Flow - Students of all levels are welcome to this challenging class. Teacher will give modifications for beginners as well as advanced options. Vinyasa means "breath and movement". This class moves quickly so if you are a beginner, you may want to take a few BASICS classes before trying "All Level Vinyasa Flow".

Ashtanga Primary Series - is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). Ashtanga yoga is an in-depth study of the union between mind, body and spirit. Ashtanga yoga is for everybody. There is no such thing as perfection. Our bodies are all different. What makes this yoga really beautiful, is the fact that we go back to being natural, to being ourselves. The Ashtanga Primary Series is the beginning level of this series. Some yoga experience is recommended...this class moves quickly!

Power Yoga - Power Yoga is the use of traditional yoga poses and dynamic sequencing to direct our attention and energies into a higher level of mental and physical practice. This combination of sweat, strength and spirituality will not only be a "workout" but one that encourages sensitivity to our bodies wherein we work with ourselves instead of against, encouraging growth, transformation and complete health.

Core Power Yoga - a fast and flowing class that will focus specifically on developing core strength. We will integrate various abdominal, hip, shoulder and back exercises into our power yoga practice, highlighting the importance of muscular and skeletal balance during asana. Some experience is recommended for this class.

Advanced Power Yoga - Advanced power yoga is a flowing practice (vinyasa yoga) that challenges breath, body and mind alike! This is a fast moving class that occasionally explores arm balances, jumping, inversions, deep stretching and strength specific poses to invigorate the senses, muscles and mind. Most important in this practice is to honor the body and have respect for its' limitations and needs. It is recommended that students have some experience to attend this class.

HOT Vinyasa - A flow class set in a 90+ degrees room to boost detoxification and increase flexibility. This class is not suitable for those with high blood pressure and some yoga experience is recommended.

Power Pilates - Pilates is system of movement designed by Joseph H. Pilates (1880-1967) to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, and concentration. This class will integrate the six pilates principles (breath, control, concentration, centering, precision and flow) to create a balance of body and mind and exert conscious control over our movements and muscles. Pilates will enhance all of your regular activities through functional strength training and dynamic stretching as we use our own body as resistance to stengthen and lengthen specific muscle groups, allowing our bodies to perform better in their most natural state: in motion!

Iyengar Inspired - In this class we move through the yoga postures in a deliberate, sequential fashion, rather than as a flow, in order to emphasize correct body alignment and internal awareness. Instruction is provided in the use of blocks, straps, and blankets so that each student can achieve the alignment and muscle action that will maximize the benefits of the postures. This is an all-level class, with modifications provided to suit individual students. Beginners are welcome.

Jivamukti - a physically challenging and intellectually stimulating Hatha yoga practice leading to spiritual awareness. Certified Jivamukti yoga teacher, Amanda Gonzalez, guides you through a vigorous class consisting of vinyasa (flowing asana sequences), hands on adjustments, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, Sanskrit chanting, yoga philosophy and deep relaxation.

Yin Yoga – Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang, they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin postures are held three to five to ten minutes at a time. This type of practice complements the more muscular styles of Yoga and is a great aid for learning to sit in meditation.

Gentle - A great class for beginners or those who want a slow moving deep stretch.

Gentle Plus - This class encorporates slow, gentle movement linked to breath and is designed to bring a sense of well-being to the body. The class will end with restorative poses held for several minutes.

Hatha Flow - Hatha Flow blends traditional yoga postures into a sequence of flowing movements linked by the breath. It combines variations of sun salutations, standing postures, balance postures, and seated postures intended to warm the body, build strength, increase flexibility and promote a sense of inner balance.

Private Lessons -Your yoga practice can greatly improve by doing this a few times a year. During a regular class, the instructor cannot always work individually with a student, so the private session is an opportunity to pick apart your practice and or a great place for a beginner to start. Your regular practice will never be the same! This is available for up to two students at a time.

In-Class Private Lessons -A unique approach to receiving a private class. It is provided while you take any open class of your choice. Jivamukti Yoga is the sole creator of this & it is practiced regularly at the School in NYC. With the verbal instruction and sequencing lead by the scheduled class teacher, the additional teacher will be giving complete and special attention to you in all of the asana’s adjustments, receiving massage, quiet adjustment instruction, and a full relaxation experience with healing oils & massage. The teacher will never leave your mat, providing support and skillful adjustments, enhancing every pose. The student leaves with an in-depth understanding of new alignment improvements and a crucial metamorphosis of the physical and energetic bodies. This brakes up habits that we may unknowingly develop within our practice... After class, guided insights are given, as well as time for questions. "In Class Privates" are described by Sting as, “a state of the art experience.” Try one or give it as a gift!
